Sixth Form Life
The majority of students at St Benedict’s Sixth form will study 3 A Level subjects, or their equivalent (BTEC, CTEC, other Applied General courses). Most subjects are allocated 10 periods per fortnight.
A small minority of students may opt to study a 4th A Level. The offer of 4 A-Levels is most commonly for students wishing to study Further Maths, but other combinations are considered on a case by case basis.
All students in Year 12 will be allocated a Sixth Form tutor who they will meet with every day. Year 13 students will have a personal tutor who they will meet on a regular 1-to-1 basis.
There will be a weekly tutorial programme, covering the wider skills needed to be successful in the Sixth Form and beyond. This includes our Post 18 Options programme (POP), ensuring students are fully supported in making decisions about their next steps. The tutor also acts as a mentor, supporting students when they need additional support.
In addition to their A level courses, all students will follow a Core RE programme called REflect aimed at developing the attributes needed to become a happy, confident, spiritually awake, life-long learner. This involves study of a non-Christian world faith, relationships, sex and health education and wider world issues such as medical ethics and social justice.
This programme has been designed with the students to equip them for life after Sixth Form.
